Teaspoon and The Waves - Teaspoon and the Waves
Oh man. Oh MAN. Teaspoon and the Waves, everybody. Another perfect record from 1970s South Africa. I stumbled upon this one just by sight. I’ll be honest, since I took up the sax a couple of years back, I’ve developed a real soft spot for records with a saxophone on the cover. Generally this soft spot has not steered me wrong. This ridiculously sweet record is surely no exception. Upon first listen I was instantly sold by the flanged out guitar intro on the “Friday Night” opener. It builds as the drums enter with an urgent up tempo reggae-imbued vibe and I hadn’t even heard a lick of saxophone yet. Teaspoon Ndlela and his promised sax from the record cover enters after about 20 seconds and the real party begins and does not let up.
Kolla Bolcha - Agaro, Ethiopia
Fresh Ethiopian coffees are BACK! This is the best time of the year. We're starting the season off right with a delightful offering from the Kolla Bolcha washing station in Agaro. Kolla Bolcha is a part of the Kata Maduga Union, an organization of coffee cooperatives in western Ethiopia. We have purchased (and absolutely loved) many Kata Maduga coffees in past years, and are excited to bring back this lot from Kolla Bolcha. This coffee is super sweet and complex with orange and plums balanced out with loads of florals.
