Shintaro Sakamoto - Like a Fable
Shintaro Sakamoto’s solo debut How to Live with a Phantom was at the top of our list when we were doing the initial planning and scheming for this here coffee and vinyl club back in 2016. It ended up being the third record we sent out to all 10 of our subscribers in the summer of that year. Released in 2022, Like a Fable quickly became my favorite Shintaro Sakamoto record since Phantom so wanted to include it in the club right away but it was not available on vinyl in the US until this summer. So boy was I...Wait. Hold on a sec. Uh oh. Now that I’m thinking about it, this is the second month in a row that we’ve broken an up-until-now-unspoken-Good-Thing-rule of never featuring the same artist more than once. We presented Morphine’s Cure For Pain in 2016 and then their Like Swimming record last month and now Shintaro. Sheesh. Welp, either this coffee and vinyl club has gotten really lame and super stale OR these are some really amazing bands that deserve repeat attention. I for one have no regrets but I guess that is really up to you to decide.

Duromina - Jimma, Ethiopia
Our menu wouldn't be complete without a spot reserved for Duromina. It's as good as it has ever been this year, with intense florals, deep stone fruit qualities, and dramatic sweetness. Duromina hails from the western part of Ethiopia in the Jimma zone, from the Kata Muduga Union, one of the premier coffee producing unions in the area. The selection is incredible year after year, the flavors clean and vibrant. There really isn't a better coffee for the fall, and while it's awesome as both filter coffee and espresso, it absolutely sings as iced coffee.
